Reminder to Power Technical Parents –  For weather related delays / closures, Power Technical follows the James Irwin schedule rather than the District 49 schedule.


Power Technical (PTEC), a grades 6-14 technical school, is James Irwin Charter Schools’ fifth school.  PTEC opened in September of 2016 with 160 students and now educates 267 students in grades 6-12.  The campus is located one block east of Constitution Blvd. and Peterson Road at 2525 Canada Drive.  It is expected to grow considerably over the next few years as it adds one grade each year until it serves students through grade 14 (an Associate’s Degree from Pikes Peak Community College in an Applied Science).
PTEC offers character development, solid academics and 90 minutes of shop classes per day.

WHERE:  PTEC is located one block east of Peterson Road and Constitution at 2525 Canada Drive, Colorado Springs, CO 80922. The school leases a building from the James Irwin Educational Foundation.  It is approximately 46,000 square feet and is located on 8.74 acres.

WHO: PTEC serves students in grades 6-12. The school will grow one grade each year until it serves students through grade 14. If the student desires,  PTEC will pay the student’s tuition to earn an Associate’s Degree in Construction Management, Welding, Manufacturing, CAD, HVAC, Electronics or Machining from Pikes Peak Community College.

MORE: PTEC is a charter school authorized by School District 49 and also partners with Pikes Peak Community College and manufacturing and construction companies throughout the region including JPM Prototype and Manufacturing, Inc., Bal Seal, Allegion, Airtech Mechanical, Swartz Electric, Elder Construction, BELFOR Property Restoration and the Housing and Building Association.

After 12th grade at PTEC, students have 3 choices.  They can graduate and go directly into the workforce, they can choose to apply/attend a 4-year college/university in engineering, architecture, etc., or third, they can attend PPCC and earn a tuition free Associate’s Degree in an approved skilled trade.  The state of Colorado and PTEC will pay tuition for grades C and better.
