JICHS EARNS COLLEGE BOARD'S AP COMPUTER SCIENCE FEMALE DIVERSITY AWARD

JICHS award for encouraging female students to take AP courses in Computer Science.

College Board's AP Computer Science Female Diversity Award

James Irwin Charter High School has earned the College Board’s AP Computer Science Female Diversity Award for expanding young women’s access to AP Computer Science A (CSA) in the 2022-2023 school year. JICHS is one of only 225 schools nationwide to be recognized for achieving this honor.

AP Computer Science A (CSA) students learn to design and implement computer programs that solve problems relevant to today’s society. Providing female students with access to computer science courses is critical to ensuring them opportunities to thrive in the industry’s high-paying jobs and to drive innovation, creativity, and representation.

JICS CEO Rob Daugherty was elated with the news. “Congratulations to our wonderful teacher, Mike Tomlinson. We are grateful that Mr. Tomlinson has encouraged so many of our young women to take this course. This course has given them a chance to thrive in a field with tremendous opportunity and high wages. The median annual wage for computer and information technology jobs is over $100,000!”
