Dear Parents and Families of James Irwin Charter Schools,
As we approach the holiday season, I want to take a moment to thank you for your continued support of James Irwin Charter Schools. Your dedication to our students and their success makes everything we do possible. On behalf of our entire staff, I wish you and your loved ones a very Happy Thanksgiving filled with joy, gratitude, and cherished moments.
Please remember that the school will be closed all next week in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. We look forward to welcoming everyone back on Monday, December 2, 2024, refreshed and ready for the next phase of learning.
I would like to bring your attention to the attached flyer from the Education Alliance of Colorado (EAC). The EAC is an organization committed to supporting charter schools and promoting school choice across the state. They work tirelessly to ensure that parents retain the right to choose the best educational environment for their children, including the option to attend high-performing charter schools like James Irwin.
Unfortunately, as the Colorado State Legislature begins its 2025 session in January, we expect several challenging bills to be introduced. These "bad" bills may aim to undermine charter schools or even attempt to close them entirely. Additionally, we expect legislation to be introduced that would regulate parenting decisions in ways that negatively impact the culture of individual families.
At James Irwin, we firmly believe in the rights of parents to determine what is best for their children and families without unnecessary government interference. These proposed laws could threaten not only the autonomy of charter schools but also the freedoms we hold dear as parents and educators.
We encourage all families to sign up with the Education Alliance of Colorado today to join this critical advocacy effort. By partnering with the EAC, we can ensure that our voices are heard as we stand up for school choice, family rights, and what we know is best for our children.
As January approaches, I will keep you updated on these legislative developments. There may be times when I ask for your support in the form of writing letters or making phone calls to our elected leaders. Together, we can make a meaningful impact and protect the values that make James Irwin and other charter schools a vital part of Colorado’s educational landscape.
Thank you for being part of our community and for your unwavering support. I wish you and your family a wonderful Thanksgiving and look forward to continuing our work together for the benefit of our students and their future.
Sincerely,
Rob Daugherty
Chief Executive Officer
